Methuen Mayor James Jajuga (left) speaks with Reps. Lenny Mirra (center) and Andy Vargas at an MMA Legislative Breakfast Meeting in Newburyport on Oct. 19.

Registration is open for the MMA’s six spring Legislative Breakfast Meetings, which will be held on March 22 and 29 and April 5.

Twice a year, the MMA hosts a series of meetings in communities across the state to give local leaders, legislators and MMA staff the opportunity to network, exchange information and discuss issues of importance in state and local government in an informal setting.

The 2019-2020 legislative session has begun, and the MMA is busy keeping track of the thousands of bills already filed with the Legislature. Relevant bills will be discussed, along with topics such as the governor’s fiscal 2020 state budget and education finance proposal, economic development and housing, municipal recycling initiatives, and recreational marijuana.

City and town officials from every community are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to talk about local successes and challenges and to give input on the MMA’s legislative priorities for the next two years.

A continental breakfast will be provided at 8 a.m. Introductions will begin at 8:15, followed by presentations and Q&A. The meetings will end by 10 a.m.

The Friday meetings are free to attend, but members are asked to pre-register online or by fax or mail.

Attendees are urged to contact their local legislators and invite them to attend as well.

Meetings will be held on the following dates and locations:

March 22
Andover – Old Town Hall, 20 Main St.
Mansfield – Town Hall Meeting Room, 6 Park Row

March 29
Athol – Public Library Program Room, 568 Main St.
