Working Foreman – Department of Public Works, Streets Division

The city of Fitchburg is seeking an experienced candidate to fill the position of Working Foreman within the Streets Division of the Department of Public Works. Under the direction of the Superintendent of Streets, the Working Foreman shall work as the leader of a crew of employees of lower grade classifications. Responsible to schedule work assignments, enforce safety regulations, maintain discipline, order supplies and equipment. Inspect work of the assigned crew during progress and completion for compliance with instructions and conformance with accepted standards and practices. In all scenarios, the incumbent shall perform the same skilled craft duties as his/her crew. Position requires extensive overtime during winter months. The ideal candidate will have five or more years of current DPW or construction experience, must possess and maintain a valid Mass. Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL), must have Mass. Department of Public Safety hoisting engineer’s license Class 2A, with 4A and 4E desirable, must possess a thorough knowledge of Chapter 157 and 3-92 through 3-123 of the city of Fitchburg code and the operation and maintenance of the division’s equipment. The salary range for this union position (Teamsters/Local 170) is $30.30-$39.52/hr.
