The city of Watertown is seeking a Principal Department Assistant to support the Senior Services Department/Council on Aging.

This position handles the day to day routine tasks of the department such as processing department payroll, managing department records, processing invoices, administering and tracking senior parking passes, fee collection, tracking program and staff attendance, ordering and tracking office and program supplies, writing memos/flyers/public notices, and coordinating multiple programs and events with department staff and vendors. This position interacts frequently with other city departments, as well as local seniors, members of the public, city officials, and program vendors. Excellent customer service and communication skills are essential.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associates degree plus four to six years of professional experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience working with seniors is a plus. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Suite.

TERMS/HOURS: This is a union position with a work week of 37.5 hours (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday: 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Tuesdays: 8:30 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Fridays: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.).

SALARY: The Step 1 salary for this position is $61,682. Hiring above Step 1 is dependent on qualifications and experience.
