General Foreman – Department of Public Works, Streets Division

The city of Fitchburg is seeking an experienced candidate to fill the position of General Foreman within the Streets Division of the Department of Public Works. Under the direction of the Superintendent of Streets, the General Foreman shall assume all duties of the Working Foreman and assist the Superintendent of Streets in his/her absence by assigning work to crews and monitoring progress of each assignment; assist and provide relief to Superintendent of Streets during snow storms, by monitoring progress and quality of plowing, sanding and salting operations by DPW and private contractors. Work as a leader of a crew of employees of lower grade classifications. Schedule work assignments, enforce safety regulations, maintain discipline, order supplies and equipment, and inspect work of assigned crew progress and completion for compliance with instructions and conformance with accepted standards and practices. In all cases, the incumbent shall perform the same skilled craft duties as his/her crew. Position requires extensive overtime during winter months. The ideal candidate must possess a valid Massachusetts CDL Class B, hoisting license Class 2A, 4E and 4G, OSHA 10 certification or obtain within six months of hire, minimum of five years of DPW or construction experience and demonstrated ability to effectively supervise employees. The salary range for this union position (Teamsters/Local 170) is $34.34-$44.79/hr.
