Town of Marshfield seeks position of Fire Chief

The town of Marshfield (population 25,806) is seeking to fill the position of Fire Chief. The town of Marshfield Fire Department is a Civil Service department, with the exception of the Fire Chief. The Fire Chief is appointed by the Select Board and works under the administrative oversight of the Town Administrator. The position is a “Strong Fire Chief” pursuant to General Laws, c. 48, §42. The Fire Chief manages a $6.8M operational budget and oversees 50 full time employees. The Fire Chief is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all fire department activities, including emergency medical services, firefighting, fire prevention, rescue operations, hazardous materials, incident management, and disaster management.

Required Education & Experience

Minimum qualification of ten years as a full-time fire department employee with a current minimum rank of Massachusetts Deputy Fire Chief. Applicant serving in a department with EMS is highly desirable. Minimum education required is a bachelor’s degree in fire sciences or equivalent in related field. State accreditation as a Fire Chief through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Fire Commission preferred or shall be required within one year of appointment.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary range of the Marshfield Fire Chief is $165,000- $175,000. The exact salary for this position will be commensurate with experience, education and certifications.
