Position overview: the town of Hamilton is seeking a highly qualified Director of Planning to lead and manage our Planning and Conservation Departments. This role involves overseeing planning, zoning, land use permits, and conservation review processes while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement department policies and procedures.
  • Manage subdivision processes and affordable housing programs.
  • Collaborate with town departments to enhance efficiency.
  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets and secure grants.
  • Supervise staff and provide support to the Planning and Zoning Boards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, environment, community development, or related field (master’s preferred).
  • Seven+ years of experience in municipal planning and community development, including supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of land use planning, economic development, and grant management.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
