The town of Plymouth (population 65,405) seeks qualified applicants for the position of Director of Inspectional Services for the town of Plymouth.

Responsibilities include administrative, supervisory, and technical work in the policy development and oversight of inspectional services in the town, including fire, building, zoning, wiring, plumbing, gas, weights and measures, and taxi inspections including enforcement and interpretation of state inspection codes, local zoning bylaw, and other applicable regulations. Enforces the provisions of Massachusetts state building code, energy code and regulations, town’s zoning bylaws and all other relevant state general laws and codes; enforces the regulations and requirements of special permits and variances issued by the Zoning Board of Appeals, and all other applicable statutes, rules and regulations. Manages the operations of the department and prepares annual budget. Provides oversight of inspections of new buildings and alterations to buildings under construction and upon completion of construction for conformity with structural requirements, approved plans and zoning restrictions. Regular attendance of Zoning Board of Appeals meetings; availability for other evening and weekend meetings and emergencies as required.

Requirements: bachelor’s degree in management or engineering, building construction or design; five years of experience in administration of inspectional codes; five years of progressive management experience, preferably in a municipal setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special requirements include a Mass. driver’s license, construction supervisor’s license and a Massachusetts state certification for building commissioner/director inspectional services.
