The town of Rockland Building Department is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Part-Time Local Inspector. This role involves inspecting buildings under construction to ensure compliance with building codes and local bylaws. The Local Inspector also inspects the safety and conditions of existing buildings, issues certificates of inspection, stop work orders, and investigates zoning complaints.
Candidates should have at least a high school diploma, with an associate degree in a related field preferred, and a minimum of five years’ experience in building construction supervision or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid Massachusetts Construction Supervisor’s license and a Massachusetts driver’s license are required. Strong abilities to interpret and enforce regulations, read blueprints, and work well with the public are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with online permitting systems are preferred, with a preference for applicants holding a Certificate of Local Inspector.
This part-time position offers an hourly wage ranging from $30 to $35, depending on experience. The schedule is 19 hours per week and will be determined by the Inspector of Buildings/Building Commissioner to accommodate both the department’s needs and the candidate’s availability.
