The town of Stoneham is accepting applications to fill an upcoming vacancy in the full-time position of Assistant Treasurer/Tax Collector. Under the direction the Treasurer/Collector, the Assistant Treasurer/Collector is responsible for assisting in the day to day operations of the department including but not limited to tax collections, tax and utility billing, tax title, treasury, local revenue collections, cash management, investment of funds, management of debt service, payroll processing and accounts payables disbursement. May act as the department head during temporary absences of the Treasurer/Tax Collector.

Essential functions or duties:

Wide range of duties, cash management, reconciliation of department receipts, monitoring of bank accounts, including fund and wire transfers. Payroll processing, distribution, including filing required reports for IRS, social security, DOR and Quest; verify accuracy of wages and deductions; generate files for 403B, 457, retirement, garnishments and union dues weekly and assist with issuing annual W2’s and 1095Cs. Collection of taxes, fees and other monies due the town; investments and reconciliation of accounts receivable and general ledger; tax title research, budget preparation; and debt service management. As well as other duties that may be required.

Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field, minimum of three to five years of prior work experience; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Supervisory experience desirable. Municipal experience preferred, some knowledge of state regulations, Mass. general laws, town bylaws as they pertain to the Office of the Town Treasurer/Tax Collector. MUNIS experience required. The successful candidate must be CORI certified, eligible for fidelity bonding and be willing to seek to obtain certification by Massachusetts Collectors and Treasurers Association if not currently certified.
