Northborough Town Administrator John Coderre discusses best practices in municipal finance from the Government Finance Officers Association during the final class of the new MMA-Suffolk University Municipal Finance Management Seminar on March 29 in Westborough.

The application deadline is Jan. 15 for the MMA-Suffolk University Municipal Finance Management Seminar to be held in Newton beginning on March 6.

The finance seminar, held over the course of five Fridays, is designed to provide an overview of municipal finance in Massachusetts. Topics include budgeting, financial reporting, treasury functions, property assessment, and costing out contracts.

Tuition will be $825.

The inaugural MMA-Suffolk finance program was held in Westborough last spring, and the second program began on Nov. 1 in New Bedford.

Certificate program
The MMA and the Moakley Center for Public Management at Suffolk University have announced the locations for the Certificate in Local Government Leadership and Management program for the 2020-2021 academic year.

The graduate-level academic program, which provides a solid grounding in public management, will be held in Danvers and Shrewsbury. Tuition will be $2,550.

The certificate program links contemporary public management theory with “real world” practice in a cutting-edge graduate education experience. The five graduate-level courses are taught by Suffolk University Faculty.

Students earn up to 12 graduate credits. Classes are held on 25 Fridays from September through May, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
