Our members are the local governments of Massachusetts and their elected and appointed leadership.
The governor’s office sent letters to communities on March 31 certifying their Chapter 90 apportionment for fiscal 2012.
Total Chapter 90 local transportation aid for fiscal 2012 is $200 million statewide, a 29 percent increase from the previous fiscal year and the highest level of funding ever apportioned for local transportation aid.
On April 4, the MMA testified before the Senate Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditures and State Assets in support of H. 3324, a bill that would allow the state to issue bonds for the $200 million Chapter 90 allocation.
The House has already approved the bond bill, and final passage is expected shortly.
The administration’s Chapter 90 letter states: “We expect legislative authorization for the fiscal 2012 Chapter 90 program within the next several days.”
The MMA and local officials have been urging lawmakers to act quickly in order to meet the April 1 statutory deadline for notifying cities and towns of how much funding they will receive.
