Local officials are invited to a free, day-long conference on renewable energy and energy efficiency at the UMass Amherst Campus Center on May 1.

The conference is intended to help municipalities obtain resources, network with other municipal officials who’ve been through the process, and get answers to questions. Participants will include municipal and planning officials, community groups and businesses.

Workshops will cover renewable energy, energy efficiency, green energy, economic development, and adaptive re-use.

Speakers will include Greenfield Mayor William Martin, Department of Energy Resources Commissioner Mark Sylvia, and Department of Energy Resources Municipal Efficiency Coordinator Aimee Powelka.

Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rick Sullivan will deliver the keynote address.

The event is sponsored by the UMass Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in cooperation with the Department of Energy Resources’ Green Communities Division.

The conference, which includes a trade show, will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 3:15 p.m.
