The town of Saugus is seeking a full-time Senior Town Planner. This position will serve as the town’s point of contact and manager for all: shorter term, intermediate and longer-range master planning. Responsibilities include land use planning; energy, housing and open space projects and initiatives; infrastructure needs assessments; and coordination of efforts to attract desired economic development. Duties also include developing sound approaches to development; assessing proposals for growth; making recommendations for land-use development zoning by-law changes. The Senior Planner will be expected to develop and/or obtain strategic land-use planning tools as well as housing studies; assist in the review and evaluation of development proposals and will provide input for specific planning and development issues. The Senior Planner will also seek and prepare grant applications, and will perform other related planning, community development assignments. This position majorly focuses on zoning, assisting and advising various elected and appointed groups, boards and commissions.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in planning, or a related field, along with five years of relevant municipal experience or a master’s degree in urban planning, public administration, natural resource management, or a related field and a minimum of two years of relevant municipal experience. AICP certification preferred.
The anticipated hiring range for this position in FY26 is $90,000-$110,000 annually depending on your qualifications.
