The town of Sandwich is seeking a 40+ hr/wk Building Commissioner. Primary duties include administrative, supervisory, and inspection work related to the enforcement and interpretation of the town zoning bylaws, town bylaws, state building code and other applicable regulations, including MGL Ch. 40A. Position supervises and assigns work of four employees and attends Zoning Board of Appeals meetings and other relevant board meetings as required. Must have thorough knowledge of proper construction practices and enforce all regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially. Candidate must possess excellent customer service skills. Computer proficiency is essential. Candidate must also have experience with, or the ability to learn Windows-based building permit computer software programs. In accordance with MGL Ch 143, Section 3, candidates must have a minimum of five years experience in supervision of building construction or design or a four-year undergraduate degree in a field related to building construction or design; or any relevant combination of education and experience. Inspector of Buildings certification required within 18 months of hire. Existing certification strongly preferred. Starting salary range is between $100,000 – $110,000 commensurate with experience and includes an excellent benefits package.
