The city of Watertown is seeking a talented and detail oriented professional to join the Department of Community Development and Planning as a Planner.
Under the direction of the Director of Planning and Zoning, this position performs a variety of duties related to current and long-range planning and development within the city. The position will support the division’s work including working on current planning project reviews, support for land use/development applications; drafting reports, decisions and permits; supporting plan implementation efforts; researching and updating of various rules, regulations and plans; developing studies and analyses related to planning and zoning issues; working on mapping, permitting, website and other application updates; and, providing technical assistance to planning, zoning, and preservation/development-related city boards, commissions, and committees.
Strong oral and written communication skills, a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with GIS and other mapping tools is desirable.
Minimum qualifications: bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, urban planning, or relevant field of study plus at least four years of professional experience; master’s degree in planning preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable. AICP certification or AICP-candidate designation preferred.
Salary and hours: this is a union position with a starting salary of $76,095. Hiring above Step 1 is dependent on qualifications and experience.
The work week is 37.5 hours (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday: 8:30-5 p.m.; Tuesdays: 8:30-7 p.m.; Fridays 8:30 to 12:30 p.m.). This position is eligible for flexible work hours and one day
of remote work.
