The town of Leicester seeks motivated applicants for the position of Building Inspector/Zoning Enforcement Officer. Responsibilities include inspecting buildings and alterations to buildings under construction and upon completion to monitor compliance with the state building code, zoning bylaw and other state and local regulations, and inspection safety conditions or existing buildings. Other duties include review of all building permit applications and their proposed use for compliance with life safety, structural, light, ventilation and compliance with local and state regulations. Investigates complaints of alleged building code and zoning violations and takes appropriate action as required.

Qualifications: bachelor’s degree or a master’s level of trade knowledge; minimum of five to seven years prior work experience in the building construction field; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Thorough knowledge of all phases of building construction, fire protection including commercial and residential including related trades such as plumbing, gas, electric, etc.; working knowledge of department inspection and permit practices & techniques; knowledge of office software (word processing and spread sheet applications). Thorough knowledge of NFPA, CMR 527 and MGL 148, local zoning by-laws and other applicable state statutes. A motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Must pass a CORI check.

The town of Leicester offers competitive salary and benefits, including use of a town vehicle and four-day work week.

Salary to $91,145 DOQ.
