Full-time, 35 hours per week.

The town of Easton is accepting applications for a qualified individual to fill the position of full-time Assistant Town Clerk – Citizen and Customer Service. The Assistant Town Clerk assists the Town Clerk with statutory duties and responsibilities of the department in accordance with Massachusetts general laws, town charter, town bylaws and regulations.

Associate degree preferred; three years of experience in responsible clerical or administrative work, preferably in the public sector; experience with elections preferred; strong customer service background preferred; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Massachusetts notary public designation required within 90 days of appointment. The successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license and must provide proof of an acceptable driving record from the Registry of Motor Vehicles. International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) designation as certified municipal clerk (CMC) preferred, or intent to begin process within two years of employment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing general information to the public; issuing licenses, permits and certificates; swearing in officials; tracking boards and committees; posts meetings and schedules meeting rooms; collection and turnover of fees; maintaining legal records, vital records, planning and zoning filings; and participation in all phases of elections/town meetings, including voter registration, census data management and certification of nomination papers and petitions.

Candidate must possess strong communication and customer service skills; excellent organizational skills; ability to multitask and produce detailed work; must have strong computer skills, including intermediate to advance excel knowledge and comfort with multiple database management programs.

This is a union position with excellent benefits and municipal pension system. Step 1 is $33.28 per hour; anticipated hiring range is $33.28-$36.38 per hour ($60,575-66,214 annual salary) depending on qualifications.
