Who is a member?
Our members are the local governments of Massachusetts and their elected and appointed leadership.
Fifty-one local government professionals from across Massachusetts graduated from the MMA-Suffolk University Certificate in Local Government Leadership and Management program this spring.
Graduation ceremonies were held on May 18 at Barnstable Town Hall for those who attended the program held in Barnstable this past year, and on June 19 at Suffolk University in Boston for those who attended the program held in Andover.
The MMA and Suffolk started the program in 2011, offering a well-rounded education in municipal management, with five graduate-level classes held from September through May. Classes cover strategic leadership, budgeting and financial management, human resources management, and administrative strategies.
The annual program is often offered in two locations around the state. Barnstable has hosted three programs since 2013. As a result, more than 80 students have now completed the program from Cape Cod and nearby towns.
“The MMA-Suffolk Certificate program has been an incredible asset to the municipal workforce on Cape Cod,” said Barnstable Town Manager Mark Ells. “We’re proud to host this program and look forward to continuing to do so to ensure the next generation of municipal officials are ready to lead in our region and beyond.”
